About the Presenters:
Nicole Denson: Current Employer/Position: Chief Executive Officer, MOSAIC Collective Consulting, LLC. Experience as it relates to this presentation: Through hard work and dedication, Nicole has been recognized as an expert in providing advocacy services to marginalized communities, with a focus on crisis intervention, counseling, and advocacy for survivors of human trafficking and other traumas, for over 15 years.
Her extensive expertise in changing the systems related to the handling of sexual assault and intimate partner violence cases within our criminal justice system has helped to shape survivor-centered practices and protocols nationally. Nicole honors the work she provided daily for the Wayne County Prosecutor & #39’s Office to aid the 11,341 survivors whose rape kits went unsubmitted for testing in Wayne County, Michigan. To date, Nicole has assisted in developing over 15 trauma-informed programs and has led over 30 workshops and support groups to aid in healing our communities. Her activism has reached the masses via platforms such as HBO, Lifetime, and the Washington Post. She is a contributing author to Aishah Shahidah Simmons’ book “Love with Accountability,” in which she details her journey from sexual violence to activism and healing. Nicole launched her own business — Mosaic Collective Consulting. At MOSAIC, the concentration is on cultural humility, diversity, equity, and inclusion. Services offered include research, interventions, and approaches to assisting survivors.

Susan Lucas: Former/Retired FBI Special Agent, Detroit Division. Experience relevant to this presentation: Susan Lucas has made a career of investigating human trafficking cases, primarily in the Ann Arbor area. She has also trained police officers in Southeast Michigan about human trafficking and how to connect with survivors. In addition to this, she has worked on cases involving kidnapping, child murder, child sexual abuse material, and the recovery of child victims, and she provides workshops and training on these topics. She is a
certified FBI instructor and has helped draft laws related to human trafficking in Michigan.
